About Me

PhD Student, Artist, Planner

Jorge Antonio Losoya. (2021). Pothos Heart. [Digital Art]

My background is in environmental planning, geography, and environmental justice. I am interested in environmental justice, flooding, and cultural landscapes particularly as it pertains to Latine communities in Texas.  I've worked in various environmental and conservation - oriented organizations and trained in urban planning research. Currently, I'm residing in Austin, Tx.

I am also an artist. Some of my artwork explores my experience as a gay, first - gen,  Mexican - American growing up on the Texas - Mexico borderlands.  Horror, science fiction, and nature are typical themes featured in my work. I also produce pieces tied to my professional and academic interests that capture the inequitable impacts of disasters and climate change, while also imagining just futures. I work with graphite pencils, colored pencils, ink pens, and digital art.

I was born and raised in Del Rio, Texas on the TX/MX border. I received my  Bachelor’s in Geography and Urban Studies from The University of Texas at Austin (2018). In 2021 I received my M.S. in Community and Regional Planning and M.A. in Latin American Studies from The University of Texas at Austin.
